PERCEPTION OF OBESE WOMEN IN RELATION THEIR BODY

Resumo


Introdução: A pessoa obesa além de ser acometida por sofrer danos fisiológicos, também pode apresentar alterações psicológicas e sociais. Assim, a pessoa obesa sofre e desenvol- ve sentimentos autodepreciativos, de autoindulgência, ansiedade e alterações do compor- tamento alimentar, dessa forma, levando-a, à podendo evoluir para estado de depressão, deixando-a suscetível ao isolamento social. Objetivo: O presente estudo teve por objetivo investigar a percepção de mulheres obesas em relação ao seu corpo e as influências em suas vidas cotidiana e afetiva. Método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, exploratória e qualitativa, em que participaram 20 mulheres atendidas nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde no município de Cuité/PB, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, realizada em fevereiro de 2013. A coleta de dados somente teve início após a aprovação do projeto pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa do Centro de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, sob o CAAE n.º 06662222.4.0000.5188. Resultados: Os dados foram analisados por meio da técnica de Análise do Conteúdo de Bardin. Da análise emergiram as seguintes categorias: Distorção da imagem corporal, Discriminação e restrições sociais, Limitações nas ativida- des laborais e Insatisfação na vida afetiva. Conclusão: Conclui-se que a obesidade, além de acarretar alterações físicas, conduz à discriminação e ao preconceito, promovendo ex- clusão social.  ABSTRACT

Background: The obese person besides being affected to suffer physiological damage, may also have psychological and social changes. So the obese person suffers and develops self- deprecating feelings of self-indulgence, anxiety and changes in feeding behavior, thus ta- king it, can progress to the state of depression, leaving it susceptible to social isolation. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the perception of obese women in relation to its body and the influences in their lives and affective. Method: It is a descriptive, exploratory and qua- litative research involving 20 women attending Basic Health Units in the municipality of Cuité/PB, through semi-structured interview, conducted in February 2013. Data collection only started after approval of the project by the Research Ethics Committee of the Health Sciences Center of the Federal University of Paraíba, under CAAE 06662222.4.0000.5188. Results: The data were analyzed using the technique Bardin Content Analysis.  Analysis emerged the following categories: Distortion of body image, discrimination and social res- trictions, limitations on work activities and dissatisfaction in love life. Conclusion: We con- clude that obesity, besides causing physical changes, leads to discrimination and prejudice, promoting social exclusion. Key words: Women; obesity; social stigma.
